Celebration of Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher and Saint Emperor Constantine in Niš
The feast day of the forefather of the holy Nemanjic’s dynasty - the day when we celebrate among the saints our father Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher - was solemnly celebrated in Nis. The 900th anniversary of his birth was marked with this celebration. At the Cathedral church His Grace Bishop Jovan of Nis celebrated the festal vigil service.
Following the service there was a celebration of the Children’s church-dance ensemble “Branko”, which celebrates Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher as its patron saint. Bishop Jovan cut the slava cake of the young celebrants and His Grace Bishop Grigorije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina, who came as a high guest, greeted them and their guests.
On the day of the feast of Saint Simeon, the faithful of the city of Nis assembled at the church of Saint Panteleimon in order to greet joyfully the bishops of the Church of God. Their Graces Bishops Grigorije and Jovan celebrated the Divine Liturgy, at the very place where once was a monastery of Saints Cosmas and Damian, which Saint Simeon had built in memory of a miracolous healing of his army.
In the evening of the feast day of Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher and the birth day of Holy Emperor Constantine, the Diocese of Nis organized a solemn Saint-Simeon academy entitled „Talk in Eternity“.
