Metropolitan Amfilohije at the audience of church and religious delegations given by Roman Catholic Pope Francis
On Wednesday, 20 March, a day after the inauguration of the newly elected head of the Roman Catholic Church, His Eminence Dr. Amfilohije, Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, along with representatives of Orthodox Churches, other Christian communities and other religious dignitaries, as the representative of the Serbian Patriarchate, attended the solemn audience given by Roman Catholic Pope Francis.
On behalf of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, Metropolitan Amfilohije, presented the Pope an icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, the work of nuns from the monastery of Saint Luke in Zupa Niksicka, and thanked for the hospitality during the stay of the delegation of the Serbian Patriarchate in Vatican.
The Metropolitan had several meetings with the dignitaries of the Orthodox Churches – Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk (Moscow Patriarchate), all present representatives of the Orthodox Churches, as well as with high dignitaries of the Roman Curia, such as Cardinal Walter Casper, former chairman of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and others.
The same day, Metropolitan Amfilohije met with His Excellency, Ambassador of Montenegro to Rome Mr. Vojin Vlahovic at the Embassy of Montenegro. They exchanged impressions on the election of Pope Francis and Ambassador Vlahovic spoke about the life and work of the Montenegrin Embassy in Italy. His Eminence handed over the Ambassador a St. Vladimir’s icon of the Most Holy Mother of God.
Later that day, the Metropolitan met with His Excellency Mr. Enrico Tuccillo, Ambassador of the Order of Malta to Montenegro and on that occasion, they spoke about the former holy shrines of the Order of Malta which are being kept in Cetinje.
