The act of the enthronement of the newly elected Holy Archbishop of Pec, Metropolitan of Belgrade and Karlovac and Patriarch Irinej of Serbia, was performed today, on Saturday January 23, 2010, at the end of the conciliar holy hierarchal Liturgy at the Cathedral church in Belgrade. The Holy Hierarchal Liturgy was served by His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia with the concelebration of his brothers Bishops, priests and deacons, and also the representatives of Russian and Greek Church.

Today at the Election Assembly of bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church the new Patriarch of Serbia was elected.
In the early morning hours His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral , locum tenens of the Patriarchate throne, served the Holy Hierarchal liturgy at the Cathedral church. His Eminence served with the concelebration of Bishops: Lukijan of Osijek Polje and Baranja, Jovan of Shumadia, Irinej of Australia and New Zealand, Vicar Bishop of Teodosije of Lipljan and Antonije of Moravica.
His Holiness Patriarch Irinej (Gavrilovic) of Serbia was born in the village of Vidova, near Cacak in 1930 by his father Zdravko and mother Milijana. When he was baptized he was named Miroslav. He finished the elementary school in his village, and then in Cacak he completed the high school. After the end of the high school he enrolled and completed a seminary in Prizren, and then he finished the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Belgrade. Upon graduation, he went into the army. Following his return from the army he was soon appointed a professor of the Prizren seminary. Before taking the office of the professor in October 1959, at the Rakovica monastery he was tonsured by His Holiness Patriarch German, gaining the monastic name of Irinej.
Today's holiday of Saints Julian and Basilissa, Venerable George Chosebite and St. Gregory of Ohrid was formally celebrated with the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy which was served His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral , Locum tenens of the Patriarchate throne, at the Patriarchate chapel of St. Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher.
On the feast day of the Synaxis of the St. John, the Prophet, the Forerunner and the Baptist at the Church of St. Greatmartyr George in Novi Sad, His Grace Irinej of Bachka served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy with the concelebration of His Beatitude Archbishop Jovan of Ohrid and Metropolitan of Skopje and Their Graces Bishops Pahomije of Vranje and Porfirije of Jegar.
