On Thursday 26th August 2010, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa met with His Excellency the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Mr. Artur Tahir oglu Rasizade, in the framework of his journey to the Caucasus of South Russia.
During their lengthy talks His Beatitude informed His Excellency the Prime Minister about the historic path of the Alexandrian Church as well as of its multifaceted missionary, philanthropic, educational and social activities in the countries of Africa for the suffering people.

On 27 August 2010, the eve of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk officiate at the All-Night Vigil at the church of the "Joy to All the Afflicted" Icon in Bolshaya Ordynka Street in Moscow. Concelebrating were Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia, a vicar of Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain (Patriarchate of Constantinople), president of the "The Friends of Mount Athos" charity society, clerics of the church, and a well-known Swiss theologian, hieromonk Gabriel (Bunge) who became an Orthodox before the divine service.
A fresco of Christ on the Kremlin Wall in Moscow rediscovered after being plastered over during the 1917 Bolshevik revolution has been presented in a ceremony attended by Patriarch Kirill I of the Russian Orthodox Church and Russian President Dmitri Medvedev.
Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia believes two hundred churches that are to be built by Moscow city authorities in frames of a special program are not enough. "If we take a relative figure that corresponds to the statistics of Baptism (about 80% of ethnically Orthodox population) then to take (Moscow - IF) figure to the average Russian rate of 11 200 people per parish, we need 591 churches more," the Patriarch said on Monday at a special session in Moscow dedicated to the mentioned program.

On Tuesday morning, over 5 thousand schoolchildren, students, their parents and teachers have come to a prayer service dedicated to the beginning of a new school year first time ever conducted by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
"We'll pray for your successes," the Patriarch said before he began.
