Serbian Orthodox Church
On the evening of Sunday 4 September I had the great honour of representing the Government at the Metropolitanate Day celebrations of the Serbian Orthodox Church at the La Montage function centre in Leichhardt. This event was hosted by His Grace, the Right Reverend Irinej, Bishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church of Australia and New Zealand. I was joined by my State parliamentary colleagues the Hon. Linda Burney, MP, and Mr Charles Casuscelli, MP, by my Federal parliamentary colleagues the Hon. Philip Ruddock, MP, and the Hon. Bronwyn Bishop, MP, and by various local councillors. Also in attendance were many distinguished guests, including bishops from other Orthodox denominations, members of the clergy, the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia and the Consuls General of Serbia and Greece.
Since 2006, every September 27 on the Feast day of the Cross, the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade celebrates its day and its Patron Saint's Day, since the regular teaching at the Orthodox department of the Lyceum in Belgrade began on September 14, 1841 according to the Julian calendar.
His Eminence Amfilohije Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral served yesterday, on the Feast of the Cross, the Divine Liturgy in the church of the Holy Cross in the Upper monastery of Ostrog, on the occasion of the Patron Saint's Day of the church. He was concelebrated by priests and monks from Montenegro, Kosovo and Metohija, Belgrade and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch served yesterday, on the Feast of the Cross, the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy in Belgrade's church of St. Mark the Apostle and the Evangelist.
On the day of the celebration of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch visited, for the first time, as the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Metropolitanate of Zagreb-Ljubljana. After a nice welcome, His Holiness along with His Eminence Jovan of Zagreb-Ljubljana went to the Cathedral church of the Transfiguration of the Lord where the doxology was served.
