Serbian Orthodox Church
V. Rev. Petar Petrovic, parish priest of the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Cincinnati, Ohio is pleased to announce the upcoming 100th anniversary celebration of his parish. He greets all readers with the following message:
On Friday, September 25 at the amphitheater of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology an international scientific symposium was opened " Antique culture, European and Serbian heritage" organized by the Society for antique studies, which president, professor Dr. Ksenija Maricki-Gadjanski organizes and runs this meeting. His Grace Bishop Dr. Irinej Bulovic of Bachka, a dean of the faculty, opened the symposion, and after that academician Dimitrije Stefanovic presented Carl Joachim Classen a Charter of Matica srpska and addressed the audience in Serbian and German.
Being concerned for orthodox Serbian people on the fifth continent, which is entrusted to us, and having a responsibility towards the God Himself and the Holy Church of Christ we are forced to issue a communiqué which is essential for all the orthodox Serbian people, whose spiritual and national being certain forces are trying to destroy. Namely, certain information has come to us that the former Bishop Damaskin or Dushan Davidovic should arrive in Australia with a goal to be installed as the head of the non-canonical Greek old calendar diocese and three Serbian church-school communities which administrations had, illegally and by conducting a total autocracy, separated from the Serbian Orthodox Church.
A Pastoral Reflection on the administrative re-unification of our Church in North and South America
From its beginning the Holy Church has been, is, and ever shall be, above all the Body of Christ.
The Apostle Paul, while imprisoned in Rome between the year 61 and 63
AD, fostering in loving kindness and with patience one part of Christ's
Body, the young and tender Ephesine Christian community, wrote an
Epistle, which today is known as The Epistle of Apostle Paul to the Ephesians. The main themes of the Paul's address to teh Ephesians are: Christ as the head and the cornerstone of the Church, and The Unity of the Spirit and faith in the Church. Emphasizing the importance of the unity among the members of the one Body, i.e. Church, the Holy Apostle wrote:
"I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all lowliness and meekness, with patience, forbearing one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all" (Eph. 4:1-6, RSV).
His Grace, Bishop Mitrophan, The Eastern American Diocese and Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church in Canton, Ohio consider it an honor and privilege to host the 20 th Triennial Church Assembly/Sabor of the Serbian Orthodox Church in North and South America
