During his stay in Serbia, His Grace Bishop Irinej visited a newly constructed building for the social housing in a supportive environment in Veliki Mokri Lug in Belgrade's municipality of Zvezdara. Eleven refugees and nine internally displaced families who have lived until recently in collective centres in Belgrade, on April 20, 2012 moved into flats in Veliki Mokri Lug.
His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch attended today's session of the Council of the University of Belgrade at which regular professor and dean of the Faculty of Medicine Vladimir Bumbasirevic was elected as the Rector of the greatest and the most significant educational institution in Serbia.
What a grand event for the Serbian community to see over 200 of our children from the Midwest come together on stage with pride and love of their Serbian heritage! Old Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church Sunday School was proud to host the First Annual Chicago Folklore Festival on April 28, 2012. This folklore competition brought together many Serbian families and friends from the Chicago land area, as well as from Rockford, Illinois, Mississauga and Toronto, Canada. It was indeed a beautiful program, well-organized and entertaining to all that had the chance to see it.
Hosted by the Old Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church Sunday School, the success of this event was due to the dedication of many people in their time, help and organization. The 2-hour program during the early evening displayed the distinguished dancing talents of our Serbian youth. With the setting of a school auditorium, including a spacious elevated stage, individual theater seats, and curtain call to close and open acts, our children captivated the audience with their choreography, graceful movements, and stunning traditional costumes.
In the monastery of Decani the feast of the Ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ was solemnly celebrated - the church slava of the monastery. The Holy Liturgy was served by His Grace Bishop Teodosije of Raska-Prizren with the concelebration of 10 priests and in the presence of two hundred believers from Kosovo and Metohija and other parts of Serbia.
On the Eve of St. John the Theologian, the Patron Saint's Day of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Belgrade, in the church devoted to this Loving Pupil of Christ the All night vigil service was served which was ended with the Divine Liturgy. The vigil service was served by Bishop David of Krusevac and the Divine Liturgy was served by Bishop Jovan of Lipljan with the concelebration of Bishop David of Krusevac.
