Georgian Orthodox Church to celebrate centenary of autocephaly

The one hundredth anniversary of the restoration of the Georgian Orthodox Church’s ancient autocephaly will be celebrated by His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of Tbilisi, with other clergy and faithful of the Georgian Orthodox Church on March 25 with a solemn Liturgy in Mtskheta’s Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, northeast of the capital city of Tbilisi, reports Sputnik-Georgia.

Serbian ambassador visited Patriarch of Alexandria

On 8th December 2016, His Beatitude Theodoros II Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa received in the Patriarchal See the visit of His Excellency Mr. Dragan Bisenic, Ambassador of the Serbian Republic to Egypt, as part of his visit to Alexandria. During their meeting, His Beatitude the Patriarch briefed His Excellency Mr. Bisenic about the missionary work done by the Patriarchate on the African continent, emphasized the protection given by the hospitable country of Egypt to the Ancient Patriarchate, discussed with him the close relations between the two sister Churches of Alexandria and Serbia as well as other historically interesting topics.

An ancient miraculous icon of St. John the Baptist was stolen from the cliff monastery of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist in Lyadova, Ukraine, 225 miles southwest of Kiev.

On Wednesday morning, 9th/22nd March 2017, the ceremony marking the completion of the restoration and rehabilitation of the Sacred Edicule of the Holy Sepulchre took place in front of the Sacred Edicule.

This project began one year ago, by the initiative of Jerusalem Patriarchate and the agreement among the Christian Communities, the Franciscans and the Armenians; the research study and the work were undertaken by the Interdisciplinary Team of the National Technical University of Athens (N.T.U.A.) under the coordination of Professor Mrs. Antonia Moropoulou.
