Regional Archons encouraged to attend prayer service at Ground Zero, Dec 5, eve of feast day of St. Nicholas
On Sunday, December 5th, at 2:00 PM, on the eve of the Feast Day of St. Nicholas, Archbishop Demetrios will lead a special prayer service at Ground Zero (Liberty and Greenwich Streets). On this solemn day, we will join the parishioners of St. Nicholas, not simply in observing the Feast Day of the Wonderworking Saint and the Name Day of the church, but we will intensify our prayers and supplications that the church dedicated to him, the only house of worship destroyed on 9/11, be re-built at Ground Zero, and soon!
We shall be joining our fellow parishes, organizations and all people of faith from across the region for this historic and inspirational afternoon of prayer. We welcome all who share our firm conviction that St. Nicholas must be rebuilt as a tribute to a nation that celebrates diversity and is united in prayer. We hope you will join us, with your families, to powerfully witness our dedication to the Saint, and our steadfast support of the efforts of the Archdiocese of America and the St. Nicholas community to re-build the church that speaks to our nation and to all the world.
Please be aware that to enter the site, which is an active construction site, you must wear thick sole shoes/boots. Other protective gear will be provided and must be worn within the site. Dress appropriately for the season. For more information call 212-570-3500
