His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch came today to Trebinje where he was welcomed by the highest officials of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Republic of Srpska, as well as thousands of citizens of this and neighbouring municipalities. The Patriarch was welcomed by Their Graces Bishops Grigorije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina, Fotije of Dalmatia, Maxim of Western America and retired Bishop Atanasije (Jevtic); as well as the President of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik, director of the Department for faith of the Republic of Srpska Jovo Turanjanin, adviser to the President of Serbia Mladjen Djordjevic, BiH Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Mirko Sarovic, Serbian director Emir Kusturica, priesthood and monks of the Diocese of Zahumlje-Herzegovina, as well as many guests.
The church slava of the monastery of Djurdjevi Stupovi, seat of the Diocese of Budimlje-Niksic, which church is devoted to St. Great Martyr George, began on the Eve of the feast on Saturday, May 5, with the solemn vigil service. The service was held by His Grace Bishop Jovan of Lipljan, vicar of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch with the concelebration of many priests. The vigil service was attended by His Grace Bishop Joanikije of Budimlje-Niksic, who addressed the present.
On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the Primary school "St. Sava" in the hall of the Municipality of Vracar an exhibition of old photographs has been opened, and in the ceremonial hall of the Municipality building the solemn academy was held. With the blessing of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, His Grace Bishop Atanasije of Hvosno awarded gramata to Dejan Stankovic, the school director. The pupils prepared a rich cultural and art programme for the guests.
Citizens of the city of Novi Sad, led by His Grace Bishop Irinej of Backa, on Sunday fourth after Pascha, on May 6, 2012, solemnly celebrated the slava of the church of Saint Great Martyr, Victorbearer and Wonder-worker George.
On the feast of the Saint Great Martyr George, the slava of the Cathedral church in Sombor, the Divine Liturgy was served by presbyter Savo Nikolic with the concelebration of local priests.
